1948 Catholic schools conduct bonfires of comic books.

1950s Ashkenazi dominated comic book industry raised familiar issues - public concern that they are influential in the degradation of morals and values.

1955-56 US Senate investigates the matter, releasing a report labeled "Comic Books and Juvenile Delinquency." Senate document notes that "on first impression, the present comic book industry would seem to comprise many different publishing firms with no apparent relationship to one another. 676 comic book titles examined are published by 111 companies owned by only 121 persons or families in addition to 1 corporation. The majority of the publishers maintain editorial offices in New York City."

Subsections of the report include "Techniques of Crime Taught by Crime and Horror Comics," "Criminal Careers as Glamorous in Crime and Horror Comic Books", and "Defenders of Law and Order Frequently Represented as All Powerful Beings Who Kill and Commit Other Crimes to Defend 'Justice.'"

Ashkenazi comic book entrepreneurs singled out by the report include direct-mail advertiser Samuel Roth "who has for many years been engaged in using the mail to advertise lewd and lascivious material," and Alex Segal who "testifed that 'by mistake' one of his trays of addressograph plates bearing the names of 400 children was routed to the publisher of sex literature."

In the listings of owners and distributors of comic book businesses, among the best known are Marvel Comic group (owners: Martin and Jean Goodman) and Archie Comic group (owners: Maurice Coyne, John Goldwater, and Lewis H. Silberkleit).

Mad magazine's William Gaines (EC comics) produced "the greatest of the under-the-covers-with-a-flashlight genre." These comics, featuring new explorations of gore, include Tales from the Crypt, Weird Science, Shock Suspense stories, Frontline Combat, "and a few other titles made the struggling incorporation profitable.

1954 Comics Code Authority (CCA) formed Comics Magazine Association of America as an alternative to government regulation, to allow the comic publishers to 'self-regulate' the content of comic books in the United States.

EC Comics are gone, except for the satirical Mad. William M. Gaines publishes only Mad Magazine; editors Al Feldstein, Harvey Kurtzman; writers Frank Jacobs, Barry Leibmann, Andrew J. Schwartzberg, Larry Siegel, Lou Silverstone.

"EC Comics offered something of a precursor to the upheaval of the 1960s, questioning authority before it became fashionable to question anything. In perhaps the most notorious panel printed by EC Comics, a murderous baseball team plays a midnight game with the limbs and entrails of a victim. Little was left to the imagination ... Remembered vividly for their overt sexuality and often grotesque imagery Betty Boop images are even more provocative when viewed in relation to the lives of her working-class Eastern European immigrant cousins.

The real heroes of Marvel Comics are the two Israeli's at the corporate helm, Isaac (Ike) Perlmutter and Avi Arad. At Marvel the key players throughout the decades, including Jack Kirby (Jacob Kurtzberg) and Stan Lee (Stanley Lieber) creators of the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, have been almost exclusively Jewish. Founded in 1939 by Martin Goodman, Marvel was a part of the so-called "golden age" of comics, when hordes of young Jewish writers and artists, most of them struggling immigrants' sons, created armies of imaginary superheroes like Superman and Captain America, whose mission was to wage war against Nazis and their ilk.

No one is more Jewish than Bugs Bunny.

Where are all the Looney Tunes?

"I’ve been a cartoonist for well over two decades and I can offer some thought as to why the Looney Tunes characters will not succeed in the 21st century. One reason is that viewer sensitivity has forced censorship of the cartoons, but here is my idea of where these cartoon characters would be today if they had continued to be the animated superstars they were 50 years ago.

Elmer Fudd seriously lacked firearm safety and his careless use of guns would land him in a federal prison. He would be convicted of weapons violations to include: Possession of a firearm without a proper permit, attempted murder and an assault with a deadly weapon. Fudd would remain incarcerated without parole.

Bugs Bunny would come out of his hole with the need to publicly announce his symptoms of nervousness, craving, insomnia, and irritability which are associated with withdrawal from excessive carrot eating. The basis for the addiction is believed to be beta carotene, which is found in carrots. Bugs would volunteer publically for rehab in an effort to seek sympathy from his viewers and restore his career.

Wile E. Coyote, a mastermind, lives a life of violence and a thorough investigation shows numerous credit transactions to the ACME Corporation for the purchase of items used with the intent to harm a US resident. Homeland Security views this as an act of terrorism and has him arrested, interrogated and shipped to the Guantanamo Bay detention camp where he will be detained indefinitely.

The Roadrunner’s suspicious cuckoo hyperactive behavior would require a drug test and even though no controlled substance was found in his urine he is still downcast by his admirers. His sudden change in appearance and personality becomes similar to a chicken and he mistakenly becomes part of a three piece special at the Roadhouse Bar & Grill in Bisbee, Arizona.

The spinning Tasmanian Devil continues to have anger issues, so antidepressants such as Prozac®, Celexa and Zoloft are prescribed by a doctor. It helps his mood, but he now fights an addiction to prescription drugs and refuses to leave the shipping crate he calls home.

Tweetie Bird becomes an important figure for the Humane Society. They force regulations to increase his cage size to give him more room to move around freely and Sylvester the cat gets neutered.

Marvin the Martian is a real spacey dude. He’s like way way out there!

Pepé Le Pew is now portrayed as a pervert and although his actions and comments may seem innocent to him, in most modern legal contexts his behavior is illegal sexual harassment, as defined by the law. Several witnesses have come forward and his career in comedy is over.

Porky Pig, who advanced slowly in social development, cannot handle losing his star power after the fall of his golden years in American animation. He developed an eating disorder and joins the more than two-thirds of adults considered to be overweight or obese.

Speedy Gonzales was an illegal immigrant deported back to Mexico and escorted by Yosemite Sam, who was quickly arrested for transporting weapons across the border.

Foghorn Leghorn and Daffy Duck planned on travelling to the US Embassy in Mexico to negotiate the release of their old friend Sam, but they were contained in customs by the USDA for not having the proper export/import vaccination papers. Instead of risking the spread of the Avian Bird Flu virus they are both euthanized.

Moses "Moe" Louis Annenberg :

Probably no fortune in America was built on a sturdier foundation of cooperation with organized crime and the Mafia than that of Moses "Moe" Louis Annenberg. A newspaper circulation man by trade and a gambler to boot, Moe Annenberg rose from poverty in the slums of South Side Chicago to accumulate the largest estimated individual income of any person in the nation—thanks to mob money.

Considered a "circulation genius" by William Randolph Hearst, Moe started out in the circulation department of the Chicago Tribune. Later, he was hired away by Hearst's new sheets in town, the American and the Examiner, serving from 1904 to 1906 as circulation manager. He became a grand operative during the early Chicago newspaper circulation wars, selling newspapers with an army of sluggers, overturning the competition's delivery trucks, burning their papers and roughing up newspaper vendors.

Moe's "genius," in fact, was muscle. His roster of sluggers reads less like a publishing staff than a muster of public enemies. A typical Annenberg employee was Frank McErlane. Former Chicago journalist George Murray later described the Annenberg-McErlane relationship: "McErlane went on to become the most vicious killer of his time. Moe Annenberg went on to become father of the ambassador to the Court of St. James."

Under William Randolph Hearst, Annenberg was one of the highest paid circulation men in the nation. Hearst so valued him that he tolerated Moe's myriad private business dealings. More than Hearst himself, Annenberg realized the money to be made in the racing information field, both legally and illegally.

1922 Moe buys the Daily Racing Form.

1926 Moe's various private businesses became so big he leaves Hearst. In a few years Moe took over the New York Morning Telegraph, Radio Guide, Screen Guide and, most important, formed the Nation-Wide News Service in association with the East Coast's biggest gambler, Frank Erickson, a close associate of Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky and Frank Costello.

1929 Al Capone brings Annenberg into the underworld's famous Atlantic City Conference, the gathering at which the groundwork was laid for the national crime syndicate. Capone and Annenberg iron out the details of a syndicated racing wire in discussions on the boardwalk. Nation-Wide brought in a flood of money. The service received its information from telegraph and telephone wires hooked into 29 race tracks and from those tracks into 223 cities in 30 states, where thousands of poolrooms and bookie joints operated in violation of local laws.

Annenberg becomes the fifth largest customer of American Telephone and Telegraph, making transmissions only slightly behind RCA and the three press associations. With Annenberg's cooperation that Meyer Lansky sews up for himself his preeminent gambling position in Miami and Florida's lush East Coast.

1930s Annenberg takes over the century-old Philadelphia Inquirer and through it becomes a power in Republican Party politics—a "respectable" citizen.

1939 Moe and his only son, Walter, are indicted for income tax evasion. For the year 1932 the government found Annenberg owed $313,000 and paid only a paltry $308. For 1936 alone Annenberg owed an estimated $1,692,000 and paid $470,000, still not the epitome of civic-mindedness. All told, along with interest and penalties, Moe's unpaid taxes came to $9.5 million. Annenberg claimed that, because much of his activities came during a period of national Democratic dominance, his legal troubles were politically inspired.

More accurate was the evaluation of the New York Times, reporting that the money gush became so large "it apparently did not seem worth while to give the government its share." Walter pleaded not guilty and finally Moe, in what some observers to the conversation regarded as the epitome of paternal devotion, declared: "It's the best gamble. I'll take the rap."

Moe was in his 60s and his lawyers advised that a guilty plea by him could well lead to the dropping of charges against his son. The gamble paid off. Moe got a three-year prison term and handed the government $9.5 million in settlement.
