Most general contractors hire out much of the work they do to subcontractors.

I do not.

Instead I do all the work.

For example when you are having a kitchen remodeled you might have several subcontractors on the job - a plumber, an electrician, a carpenter, perhaps a tile setter.

I perform all these functions myself.

The advantage in hiring me is twofold.

1) The only people on the job will be myself and possibly a helper.

2) I take only one large job - say a kitchen or bathroom remodel for example - at a time.

For the homeowner the advantages in hiring me lies in the fact that the job will be completed in a timely manner with no down time waiting for subcontractors to complete a section of the work and in the fact that as opposed to many different individuals traipsing through the home there will only be me and possibly a helper.

Construction using contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship methodology in all home improvement projects.

Construction work completed includes a home, kitchens, bathrooms, staircases, sunrooms, an art studio and garage as well as smaller projects which include porch and entry enhancements, decks, indoor and outdoor furniture, whimsical structures and hardscape/landscapes/gardens.

I prefer small and medium size projects with an emphasis on projects that I have designed.


I started working in residential construction in 1972 and have over 35 years experience in residential construction.

carpentry - installation of crown moldings, chair rails, base and trim moldings; fireplace mantels; installation of entry, exterior, interior or wardrobe doors; custom made doors; adjustment and correction of incorrectly working cabinet doors; window repairs including ancient double-hung windows with weights or springs or change outs; heavy duty built in garage shelving; installation of screen doors; installation of cabinets; installation of formica countertops; changing out existing or installing new dead bolts, lock sets and passage sets; removal and installation of thresholds; building cedar or redwood fences with gates; any type of framing work; structural repair work due to termite damage or dry rot such as fascia replacement or post replacement;

plumbing - rough plumbing; replacing worn toilets, kitchen and bathroom faucets, tubs and sinks with new plumbing fixtures; new tub surrounds; hot water heater replacements and strapping; plumbing leak repair;

electrical - replacing malfunctioning electrical outlets and switches; installation of light fixtures and hanging ceiling fans; installation of a new doorbell; installation of new circuits if your breaker box has open slots; installation of attic fans;

tile - installation of tile on counter tops and tub & shower surrounds with standard ceramic tile, porcelain, marble or granite; installation of floor tile, masonry and vinyl;

masonry - installation of glass block; installation of masonry facade work;

drywall and plaster - installation of drywall; patching of drywall and plaster;

glazing - replacement of window glass in fixed, double hung and aluminum frames;

Some may wonder how this is possible. I am a family man. My wife works for a corporation. Once, when my oldest son, Ryan Matthew, was visiting on his summer college break he said to me, " Dad, thank you for always being at home after school."

This made it worth all the times that I was told I was not ambitious enough by other men and women because I would not drive far enough, work on Sundays, or work non-stop never ending 12 hour days as ‘my family was too important'.

And what has made it even better is the fact that now Ryan is working on his doctorate at Cal Tech.
